, Question 1

The term bibliotherapy and my role as a librarian in this practice by listing and
analysing the steps that would be used to assist Kukhanya with the process of
bibliotherapy

The term bibliotherapy

According to Meyer and Fourie (2017: 52), bibliotherapy is a group of methods
where a facilitator (or co-facilitator) and a participant (or group of participants) use
literature to structure or organise their interactions (Meyer and Fourie 2017: 52). The
term "literature" is interpreted broadly, and the process's aim is to benefit the
participants in some way (Meyer and Fourie 2017: 52). The facilitator acts as a
change agent and actively works towards realising his or her goals (Meyer and
Fourie 2017: 52). Three elements are implied to be present in bibliotherapy: a client
or participant, a facilitator or mediator, and literature or other media (Meyer and
Fourie 2017: 52).

My role as a librarian in this practice

In bibliotherapy, I work as a librarian and offer advice, materials, and encouragement
to those who want to use reading to improve their mental health. I work in
conjunction with other medical experts, such therapists or instructors, to choose
reading materials that are appropriate for each person's requirements and situation.
In the library, I also establish a warm and secure atmosphere where people are at
ease sharing and exploring their feelings and ideas in relation to the resources they
come across.
