## Lesson: Unveiling Stories in African Fabrics
**Learning Objectives:**

**Materials:**
* Large images of several African textiles, printed or projected, five to six,
representing different tribes: Kuba raffia cloth from the Democratic Republic of
Congo, Kente cloth from Ghana, Maasai shuka from Kenya

* Works sheet with lines for tribe, fabric name, elements of art used, principles
of design used, and cultural significance (optional)

**Introduction (10 minutes):**
1. Heritage Day Connection: Begin class by opening the floor for discussions
about Heritage Day. Mention how great it is to share in the joyful shear of
cultural diversity.
2. African Textiles: Engage your students by sharing that textile art from Africa
is an extremely old form of artistry. It can be prepared through dyeing,
beading, batik, quilt making, and weaving. Describe each briefly.
