The subject physical education exist because learners need to become aware of their
large and small muscles and derive the satisfaction of making use of it. Modern
equipment and technology have limited the use of physical exhursion.
Physical education involves growth, development and proper physical maintenance
which give the learner to grow mentally, physically and emotionally.
Lastly physical education teaches learners how to utilise apparatus and playground
equipment safely, learn to follow rules, nutrition diets and ways to cope with stress.

accomplish goals. The role of the subject is to enhance learners physical fitness and

• To develop skills, knowledge and attitudes, basic to voluntary participation in

• To develop and maintain optimal individual muscular strength, endurance and
cardiovascular endurance.
1.5 THE VALUE AND PLACE OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORT FOR

Participating in activities gives learners a means of self-expression, they do this by
becoming aware of:

movement. It provides a release to reduce tension and promote relaxation.
Learners learn about the value of socialising. While providing the opportunity to
develop physically. They also develop the understanding of how to play games and
