, Introduction:
In Antony and Cleopatra, Philo’s and Demetrius’ views of Marc Antony are
similar in regard to Caesar’s views on Antony and each view can be represented
to Rome. This can be seen when Demetrius and Philo enter a room in
Cleopatra’s palace. Philo comments on Antony’s obsession with Cleopatra and
how he finds Antony to have forgotten about his qualities of greatness to serve
Rome. Philo’s views of Antony are similar towards Demetrius’ views, after
Antony and Cleopatra exit with the Train, Demetrius feels that Antony forgets
where his loyalty lies, which is Rome and instead he focuses his attention on
Cleopatra. These views intertwine with Caesar’s views where Caesar is at his
house and states to Lepidus that he feels that Antony should be devoting his
time to the pressing needs of the Roman Empire, and that Antony is neglecting
his duty to his country for pleasure.

Philo views Antony to not be his true self with Cleopatra and therefore forgets
about his qualities of greatness to serve Rome. He feels that Antony has
abandoned not only Rome but all self-control, this is due to his obsession and
infatuation with Cleopatra which is excessive.
E:
When Philo enters a room in Cleopatra’s Palace, Philo comments on Antony’s
infatuation with Cleopatra which is excessive and his passion about fighting at
war but instead now says “The buckles on his breast, reneges all temper”. As
well as he feels that Antony is not his true self with Cleopatra and forgets about
his quality of greatness, “Sir, sometimes when he is not Antony”.
