Report on Cancer Database Analysis

The National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR) has reported the cancer cases of 5-

year relative Survival percentage from 2001-2016. All the data have been compiled from about

45 United States of America NPCR registries for survival analysis that covers about 94% of the

U.S population. This estimated data contains the percentage of cancer survivors by all the types

of cancer, all the races, and both sexes (male and female).

5-Year Relative Survival Percentage of All types of Cancer

The surveillance for the survival of cancer and understanding of efforts by Centers for

Disease Control (CDC) is needed to support and provide necessary healthcare and nursing to the

cancer survivors i.e. 15.8 million in 2017. To measure the relative cancer survival, the ratio of

all-cause survival in a group with cancer is observed to all-cause survival of the same group that

doesn’t have cancer. Relative cancer survival is calculated by the observed (all-cause survival in

a group with cancer) divided by the expected (all-cause survival) of the general population. The

cases to include in the analysis from these registries are if there were cases of invasive cancer

diagnosed only from 2001 to 2016, sex and age of the cases were known and also were 0 through

99 years, and if the cases were not identified only based on a death certificate and autopsy.

From the date of the cases started to the follow-up (in a month, day, and year manner)

were recorded to the date of diagnosis and from the date of the last follow-up, in the same

manner, were only set to the date of death/ National Death Index/last contact if the follow-ups

were active. All-cause survivals were observed by any type of cancer with 23 sites of cancer, by

both sexes and by all the races of every individual in a group that were calculated by the method

of actuarial life. When the patients were diagnosed with several primary cancers at different

cancer sites, each cancer was calculated in cancer-specific relative survival and when the patients
