Three follow-up activities for exploiting the authentic text with advanced students

First Activity
a) A dictionary activity, for vocabulary and dictionary skills development AFTER the class have
read or listened to your selected text.
This could be used later in the same lesson or in another lesson. You can use the vocabulary items
you have selected for pre-teaching or make a different selection. The vocabulary must be from the
text or clearly relevant to the text.

Time 20 Minutes
To familiarise students with using a dictionary to locate words, build on

understanding meaning, form, and pronunciation.
1. Hand out dictionaries and a worksheet to each student.
2. Provide students with instructions on how to complete the
worksheet.
3. Set the time limit to 15 minutes (5 minutes for after quiz
pronunciation practice)
Teacher’s Instructions
4. Students to work by themselves to complete the worksheet.
5. Monitor and assist students throughout the worksheet.
6. After worksheet, students must repeat the words for
understanding and practice the pronunciation with rest of class
(if time allows).
