1. Forming stage
- Team member has to get to know each other at the beginning of team building.
- Members of the team will test boundaries in terms of interpersonal and task roles.
- The manager gives information about the purpose of the team; role of each team member;
clear guidelines for decision making during this phase.
2. Storming stage
- Team member have decided with whom they want to form personal relationships.
- Team member compete for positions in the group and may openly challenge one another even
team leader.
- Manager needs to coach the team members to work together.

3. Norming stage
- Team member settle into their roles & committed to working together.
- More open communication based on constructive criticism and group cohesion becomes
stronger.
- Manager will encourage and support team member & ensure success is celebrated.
4. Performing stage
- Roles are more flexible and team members take responsibility for their individual & team
contributions.
- Manger changes from supporting and coaching the team to helping individual team members.
5. Adjourning stage
- When tasks are completed, team will be eliminated.
- Often feeling of loss, when entire team dissolves or team member leaves.
- May be stressful for remaining team members.
- Manager keeps reminding the team of its successes.
Team dynamics
- “Team dynamics” can be defined as the interaction
between members personalities, characteristics and
the working relationships with each other.
- Team dynamics can either lead to a positive
interaction, resulting in team Members being more
productive.
- Team dynamics can lead to negative interactions if
team members fail to work together thereby
contributing to a poor team performance
