“Behavioural problems in a classroom increase the stress levels for both the
teacher and pupils, disrupt the flow of lessons and conflict with both learning
objectives and the processes of learning” (Barry D.R & Parsonson S., 2012).
As a professional educator discuss in 250 words the strategies that you would
implement for improving behaviour in your classroom in order to create a
conducive environment for teaching and learning. (20 marks)
When children act out more than occasionally — with frequent tantrums, outbursts or
defiance — the first step to dealing with the problem behaviour is finding out what’s
behind it.
Some of the contributing factors include:
• Genetics: Some children may have a greater predisposition towards
behavioural problems due to their genetic make-up, especially if there's a family
history of mental disorders.
• School and home issues: Bullying, difficulties at school, family bereavements,
illnesses, and parental discord can all contribute to a child's behavioural
problems.
• Learning difficulties: Struggling to learn socially acceptable behaviours from
others can result from learning difficulties or language problems.
• Trauma and abuse: Children who have experienced trauma or abuse, even at
an early age, may be more likely to develop behavioural problems.
• Substance use: Alcohol and drug usage can significantly impact a child's
behaviour, even if the parents are unaware of their usage
Taking measures to improve academic performance and outcome starts with
improving the behavior of students in the classroom. Some of the strategies that can
be used to improve behaviour includes;
