1.1 In your own words, explain what you understand by the following terms:
a) Indigenous Knowledge
Understandings, abilities, and philosophies established by local cultures with
extensive histories and experiences of engagement with their natural surrounds are
referred to as indigenous knowledge.
b) Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS)
is a framework for stimulating and strengthening indigenous knowledge's contribution
to South Africa's social and economic development.
c) Traditional Knowledge
Indigenous communities' traditions or heritage include information or customs
passed down from generation to generation. Knowledge systems entrenched in the
cultural traditions of regional, indigenous, or local communities for which Indigenous
communities operate as guardians or custodians are often referred to as knowledge
systems for which Indigenous communities act as guardians or custodians.
d) Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK)
People in relatively nontechnical civilizations with a direct reliance on local resources
hold knowledge, practice, and beliefs about the links of living beings to one another
and to the physical world.
e) Traditional Environmental Knowledge.
a collection of knowledge, behavior, and belief about the relationships of living
beings (including humans) with one another and with their environment that has
evolved via adaptive processes and has been passed down through generations
