1.1. Cooperative Learning
Cooperative learning is the learner-centered teaching method that I have chosen for
the lesson on “The economy, the circular flow”.
Cooperative learning is a teaching strategy in which small teams, each with students
of different levels of ability, use a variety of learning activities to improve their
understanding of a subject. Each member of a team is responsible for learning what
is taught and also for helping teammates learn, thus creating an atmosphere of
achievement.
This method encourages personal interaction, which can enhance learning as
students may learn more effectively when they interact and share ideas. It helps
students feel that they are part of a community, fosters a sense of shared
responsibility for learning, and encourages cooperation and active participation in the
learning process.
In the context of our lesson on "The economy, the circular flow", cooperative learning
could involve students working together in small groups to examine various
economic scenarios, discuss the flow of money and resources in these scenarios,
and then create their own diagrams or models representing the circular flow of the
economy.
The cooperative learning method aligns with the CAPS curriculum's emphasis on
student involvement, activity-based learning, and the development of higher-order
