1.1 A socio-constructivist’s view (Vygotsky) of the impact of

A socio-constructivist's view, such as that of Vygotsky,
acknowledges the significant impact of context on curriculum
implementation. Vygotsky argued that learning is a social and
collaborative process that occurs within a specific sociocultural
context. He emphasized that individuals acquire knowledge and
skills through interactions with more knowledgeable others, such
as teachers, peers, and parents, who provide guidance and support.
According to Vygotsky, context plays a crucial role in shaping
curriculum implementation because it determines the types of
interactions and scaffolding opportunities available to learners. The
sociocultural context provides the norms, values, and beliefs that
influence how curriculum is interpreted and operationalized. For
example, in a classroom with a strong emphasis on cooperative
learning, the curriculum will likely include group activities and
projects, and teachers will facilitate collaborative discussions
among students. In contrast, in a classroom with a more traditional,
teacher-centered approach, the curriculum may focus more on
lectures and individual assignments.
Moreover, Vygotsky emphasized the role of the Zone of Proximal
Development (ZPD) in curriculum implementation. The ZPD refers
to the difference between what a learner can do independently and
what they can achieve with the guidance and support of more

influence teaching and learning. Without considering the context,
curriculum implementation may not be effective or meaningful for
the learners. A curriculum that is designed without considering the

which they are situated may fail to achieve its intended outcomes.
Therefore, understanding and adapting to the context is crucial for
successful curriculum implementation.
