Where do I fit in now?I am a middle-class student in South Africa. I have access to education, healthcare, and other basic
necessities. I am not wealthy, but I am not poor either. I am grateful for the opportunities that I
have, but I am also aware of the challenges that many people face in the world.
I think I fit somewhere in the middle of the economic landscape painted by the facts. I am not as
wealthy as Bob van Dijk, but I am also not as poor as the children working in the cobalt mines in the
DRC. I have some privileges, but I also have some challenges.
I think it is important to be aware of my own location in the economic landscape. It helps me to
understand my own opportunities and challenges, and it also helps me to empathize with others. I
believe that we all have a responsibility to use our resources to help those who are less fortunate
than us.
At the end of my life...
I hope that at the end of my life, I will be able to say that I have lived a good life. I hope that I will
have made a positive impact on the world, and that I will have left behind a legacy that will be
remembered for generations to come.
I believe that eudaimonia, or human flourishing, is the ultimate goal of life. Eudaimonia is not about
material wealth or possessions. It is about living a life that is meaningful and fulfilling. It is about
developing our virtues and using our talents to make a difference in the world.
I believe that the key virtues that I will need to develop in order to live a good life are:
Wisdom: The ability to make good decisions and to live a life that is in accordance with our
values.
Justice: The ability to treat others fairly and to uphold the common good.
Courage: The ability to stand up for what we believe in, even when it is difficult.
Temperance: The ability to control our desires and to live a life of moderation.
Love: The ability to care for others and to build strong relationships.
I also believe that phronesis, or practical wisdom, is essential for living a good life. Phronesis is the
ability to use our knowledge and our virtues to make good decisions in the real world. It is the ability
to navigate the complexities of life and to make choices that are in our best interests and in the best
interests of others.
I hope that at the end of my life, I will be able to say that I have lived a life of eudaimonia. I hope that
I have developed my virtues and used my talents to make a difference in the world. I hope that I
have been wise, just, courageous, temperate, and loving. And I hope that I have used my phronesis
to make good decisions in the real world.
Conclusion
The economic landscape that we have contemplated in this essay is a complex one. There is great
wealth and great poverty, and there are many challenges that we face as a global community. But I
believe that it is still possible to live a good life, even in the midst of these challenges.
