Question 1
Write a short paragraph in which you explain, in your own words, why we
sometimes use the word “literatures” in the plural form instead of the word
“literature” in the singular form. (4)
The use of the word "literatures" in the plural form instead of "literature" in the
singular form is based on the idea that there are multiple bodies of literature that can
be studied and analyzed. Different cultures and regions have their own unique
literary traditions and works, which is why we use the plural form to acknowledge the
diverse range of literary works that exist. By using the plural form, it also allows for a
broader understanding of the various types of literature that have been produced
throughout history and across different societies. It reflects the idea that there is not
just one homogenous body of literature, but rather a multitude of literary traditions
that coexist and contribute to the richness and diversity of the field.
Question 2
Literature can be divided into different genres: Prose, Poetry and Drama. Write
three separate sentences – one sentence per genre – defining the genre and
providing an example of the genre.
Prose is a genre of literature that is written in regular, everyday language and is
organized into paragraphs and chapters. An example of prose is "To Kill a
Mockingbird" by Harper Lee.
