The primary purpose of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993 (OHSA) is
to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of workers at their workplaces. The Act
aims to:
1. Prevent Workplace Accidents and Illnesses: By setting standards and
regulations to minimize risks, the Act aims to prevent accidents, injuries,
and illnesses arising from workplace conditions.
2. Protect Workers' Rights: OHSA enshrines the right of workers to a safe
and healthy working environment as a fundamental human right.
