IELTS - General Module - Writing
Writing task 1, general IELTS module correct answers This is one of the differences between the academic module and the general training module. Here you have 20 minutes to write a 150-word (at least) correspondence to a friend, a restaurant manager
or a boss in form of a letter. In the question, you'll be given the context and the points that your correspondence should cover. You'll also be given the salutation for the person to whom you should write. This task takes 1/3 of the writing mark.
General advice correct answers In most cases, the situation on which you should describe will be imaginary. Meaning it doesn't have to be a real situation however you should make up your mind to come with some creative ideas. Make sure you practice this a lot before the actual IELTS examination, do it fast, keep it simple and don't be so worried about being artistic.
Make sure you stick to the 20-minute duration of task 1. Otherwise, you'll take from the 40 minutes of task 2 which isn't recommended.
What is letter writing? correct answers Letter writing is a way of communication that people don't, almost entirely, practice nowadays as it was replaced by other immediate communication means like emails, chat programs and even direct internet calls. Letters aren't an immediate correspondence and that means they take time to be received and more time to receive a reply. In the IELTS general module task 1, you're required to write a traditional letter so make sure you take the following in account: 1- check that the content of your letter doesn't lean on immediate communication. You should understand that what you write will take time to be taken into action by the other party. 2- make sure you keep your letter in a narrative manner. As if you're telling a story to the receiver. 3- make sure you make your letter descriptive. Use good adjective and adjective clauses. 4- use both first person (I) and second person (you)
5- check if you're writing a formal letter which usually is in a business situation. For example writing to your boss or writing a complaint letter for a hotel. Make sure you use the correct tone of language.
