Step 1: Search and Identify the Challenge
One of the biggest challenges organisations face today when it comes to remuneration
management is dealing with pay equity, especially in the context of diversity and
inclusion. This has become more apparent with increasing attention on gender pay
gaps, racial disparities, and equal pay for equal work.
Step 2: Summary of Information
(a) Remuneration Management Challenge: The most significant challenge in
remuneration management is ensuring pay equity across diverse employee groups. (1
mark)
(b) Discussion of the Challenge: Pay equity refers to the need to ensure that
employees who perform similar work, with comparable responsibilities, are paid equally,
regardless of gender, race, or other characteristics. In many companies, historical wage
structures have resulted in inequalities, where women and minorities are paid less for
similar work. As more attention is given to diversity and inclusion, organisations are
under pressure to address these disparities. However, it is not always easy, as this may
require a complete overhaul of salary structures and policies, as well as dealing with
resistance from higher management. (2 marks)
