Final Thoughts 59
, Today was our first class with Cristina. When I met her, I felt that she was so passionate about
literacy that catch my attention for the whole day. Then, we talked about translanguaging, and I realised
that as a future teacher I need to have a professional identity – something that Cristina told us too –.
Therefore, I need to start reflecting about myself, my goals, what I do and say, and beyond all
that, my happiness. Even though I am older than many of my classmates, I feel as autonomous as them
and it is something that I want to improve for my teacher training. I am going to be with children, and
I have to know what I am doing at every moment, and if something happens, I will have to act quickly
and correctly.
In addition, we talk about the difference between explicit and implicit teaching and its
importance for us. Personally, I find that implicit teaching suits me better since I have the opportunity
to let children be themselves, express their own ideas and emotions and improve their critical thinking
and social skills.
This day I learnt about the importance of how literature affects us in a personal and an
emotional way. It develops our personality even further, so not reading affect us negatively. We must
apply the compassionate language.
As a summary, we have to teach grammar in Primary school with tiny implicit
questions, storytelling, dialogues... This made me think about motivating students as a need.
We need to make them use the FL so they can acquire grammar rules. In addition, we have to
motivate them, if not they won’t learn properly. For this picture books are pretty useful. A high-quality
input is done by well-told stories.

Also, we talked more about implicit and explicit learning. The first one guides them for certain
things (colours…). We select an interesting content to be learnt. Cartoons at early ages, for example.
While explicit learning is when we look for them to know every single verbal tense.

, My story with literature.
As a child I learnt early to read because I wanted to read with my sister, and I imitated what
she was doing so I learnt with her and my mother.
When I started primary school, I read all the books that were at my class and in my house,
based on what my mom says, I got bored of reading. I will never understand why I went from loving
and enjoying reading to abhorring it.
Being forced to read when I was a teenager didn’t help, I felt that books were boring since I did
not want to read that one. If I could have chosen the book, I would have never started disliking reading
books.
Now I am starting to enjoy again reading books such as “Journey to the Centre of the Earth”
by Julius Verne and I love to read interesting facts and scientific research.

A woman from Palestine came and told us that she’s studying for a doctorate about online
teaching through an iPad application in English class. She showed us some internet sources to use in
class with our future students.
She talked about her country's problems since they’re under Israel’s control. People die every
day and there is no safety.
Personally, I find that people are not paying attention to the world’s real problems. Nowadays
many of them are preoccupied by small things such as fast fashion, which creates pollution; being
famous…
It is true that some people are aware of real problems, but not many of them are willing to
change some things that could have an important impact on our world.
