Criminology unit 1 ac2.1 (EXAM BOARD - WJEC). Grade A essay. This essay compares 11 campaigns for change in 5 different comparison themes in a clear and concise way.
In this task I will be comparing and talking about the followings campaigns for change:
Clare’s Law
Lillian’s Law
Snow Drop Campaign
Sarah’s Law
Bobby Turnball’s Campaign
April’s Campaign
Think! Road Safety Campaign
Helen’s Law
Anti – Smoking Campaign.
Ann – Ming’s Law
Black Lives Campaign.
Comparison theme 1: Forces behind the campaign (who set it up?)
Many of the campaigns listed above have similar forces behind them. Some campaigns have
been set up by parents or family of the victims. For example, Clare’s Law has been set up by
her father, Michael Brown, after her death. Likewise, Lillian’s Law was set up by her grieving
parents, Natasha and Gary Groves, as well as other family members. Another campaign for
change where family was the force behind the campaign is Sarah’s Law. The parents,
Michael and Sara Payne put all their effort into making a change.
However, there are a number of campaigns who were set up by other people and not family
members of the victims. For example, the Snowdrop Campaign was founded by Ann Pearson
after the fatal death of many children and teacher. Think! Road Safety Campaign is a
government based organisation. Lastly, the Anti-smoking Campaign (ASH) was establishes
by the Royal College of Physicians.
My Sexual Harassment in the Workplace Campaign was established because of the stories
my friends have shared with me.
Comparison theme 2: Intention of the campaign
The campaigns Sarah’s law, Helen’s Law, April’s campaign, Bobby Turnball’s campaign,
Lillian’s Law, Clare’s Law, Black Liver Matter and Ann Ming’s campaign all wanted to make a
change in the laws. For example, Sarah’s Law wanted to allow parents to have access to
information about child sex offenders in the local area, Helen’s Law wanted to keep
murderers in prison if they do not disclose where the body of the victim is, and Snowdrop
campaign wanted to put laws into place where handguns shouldn’t be carried in the streets.
