NR 566 final pointers
Peds doses of motrin and tylenol. Rabies tx, immunizations. STDs- which med is appropriate for
which infection. One question on lesbian health and one on homosexual males. Contraception and
hormone replacement. Blood thinners. Few questions on pregnant patients- folic acid, blood thinners.
Osteoporosis. Several peds/adolescent med questions.
One question- what are the forms testosterone is available in?
Tricky one because IM wasn't listed at all on either of the 4 and oil was listed on 3 of the 4. So IV
isn't correct...but oil is.
options were gel, intravenous, oil, and something else. 4 choices with 4 forms listed.
Pretty sure I missed that one- oil is correct, the IM doses are oil.
Were the peds/adolescent med questions actual meds or were they like from the pediatric patient
chapter?
one was how to help with bone growth in adolescents since that is when they grow the most to
prevent osteoporosis later in life.
One was correct med administration to 6 month old
Correct motrin dose for child weighing 8kg? And what is usual dose? for tylenol in peds- options
were a range.
And tylenol/ motrin doses for infants
The study guides are spot on! Heavy on testosterone and estrogen. Easier than midterm! Good luck!!!!
Drugs affecting the hematopoietic system:
Drugs used in the treatment of altered hemostasis can be divided into those that inhibit
thrombosis and those that facilitate clotting.
Those used to prevent or dissolve blood clots are divided into three classes that describe
their mechanisms of action: anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, and thrombolytics.
Drugs to prevent excessive bleeding are divided into three classes - These classes are
replacement of clotting factors, vitamin K supplementation (required for manufacture of
clotting factors), and drugs that inhibit plasmin (an enzyme that degrades blood clots).
The hematopoietic machinery resides primarily in the bone marrow in adults and requires a
constant supply of essential nutrients such as iron, vitamin B12, and folic acid.
Drugs affecting the immune system:
Depending on the infection, ingredients in vaccines can vary. They may also change from
year to year as new strains of viruses (such as the flu (Links to an external site.)) appear.
Some vaccines may contain a small dose of:
a live (but weakened) germ
dead germs
small parts of germs (for example, a molecule from the surface of a germ)
inactivated toxins produced by bacteria
antibiotics or preservatives to stop the vaccine from becoming contaminated or going
off
diluents (such as sterile water or saline
Vaccines help reduce the risk of certain illnesses by introducing dead or weakened
versions of disease-causing germs (bacteria or viruses) to the immune system.
Vaccines protect vulnerable people in our community – such as very young children,
the elderly, or those who are too sick to be immunized.
Some vaccines offer lifelong immunity.
Immunization greatly reduces the risk of catching a disease, which in turn reduces the
risk of complications.
