NR 504 week 6 discussion
Describe the fundamental elements of a model for change, such as steps involved in the process, approach in mobilizing the change process, and what is needed to sustain the results.
Good afternoon Instructor and class, The way change is implemented will be different according to the model selected but several elements to each model are consistent. The basic steps that are common to each model include that a strategic leader goes about implementing change will differ depending on the model that is selected, but there are basic steps that are essential to follow that are common to change such as: strategic orientation, at what system level change is occurring, use of champion(s), mobilizing knowledge, and transformation (Porter-O'Grady, & Malloch, 2015). To managing organizational or personal change requires a clear understanding that at whatever level the change occurs, there will be effects on other related levels and may be directly or indirectly. Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating strategies are necessary to make sure the change made is meaningful and has a positive impact. The level of predictable change allows for preparation time and unpredictable change level does not. Both predictable and unpredictable change can be occasional, sporadic, rapid, continuous, and/or rare. In healthcare, unpredictable change is common because of the rapid rate that change occurs (Balik, Conway, & Watson, 2011). Incorporating staff into the change process when necessary cannot be accomplished unless there is a clear understanding of why the change is necessary and what is to be expected of them to ensure change occurs. Putting staff members in place that are knowledgeable and skilled in this process is useful when change must occur across an entire unit. This is done through effective leadership skills and leadership practices that promote and implement change when it occurs. Evaluating the results and monitoring the process is also necessary to establish positive impact on expected outcome and transformation after change has occurred
(Trastek, Hamilton, & Niles, 2014). Thanks, Balik, B., Conway, J., Zipperer, L., & Watson, J. (2011). Achieving an exceptional patient and family experience ofinpatient hospital care.
