ENG2613 ASSIGNMENT
01 2023(19 APRIL 2023)

, Section A: Knowledge-based Questions
Question 1

In your own words, explain why story telling – whether in oral or written form –
is important to human beings. (5)

The act of telling stories is fundamental to being human. With storytelling, we can
convey information in a way that arouses emotions. Along with that knowledge, they
help us comprehend one another and make the material memorable. According to
studies, oral storytelling has a key part in the development of a person's social and
emotional abilities, cognitive development, and language ability. Compared to
storytelling from a text, oral storytelling is much more socially and emotionally
intimate. Our moral compass, work culture, interpersonal expectations, worldviews,
and interests are all reflected in the stories we tell. Additionally, because others in
your immediate vicinity trust you, your stories have the potential to change the way
they perceive issues that are significant to both of you. Giving children access to other
worlds.

Question 2
In your own words, explain the difference between realism and non-fiction. (5)
Realism
Realism refers to something that appears to be true; it is a depiction of the world as it
is and can be seen. It is not, however, genuine life, but rather the replication of life.
Depending on how imaginative the topic is, it can be 2 or 3 steps away from reality.
(Tutorial Letter 501: 14).
non-fiction
is based on historical figures or events, with some fictional elements thrown in for
good measure. Non-fiction is defined as any written or media content that attempts,
in good faith, to present factual information about a real-world topic. Nonfictional
content might be presented objectively or subjectively.
Examples
1. Travel guides and travelogues.
Travelogues are a sort of memoir in which the author describes his or her journey to
a certain area. Travel guides are more in-depth, offering advice and practical
information to visitors to a certain region.
