Contrasting the use of future simple and present simple in sentences by providing students with controlled and freer practice activities of the first conditional. Level of Class: A2 (Late elementary/ pre- intermediate) Teenagers (14-16 years old) Lesson Objectives: Students will have a better understanding of the various uses and functions and how to form sentences using the first conditional. Using the first conditional students will communicate through play related to the controlled and freer practice activities. Nationality/First Language: Chinese Assumed Knowledge: Students may already have a background of the present simple, common verbs, present continuous, and some may be familiar with the verb will for future events. Students are already aware and familiar with grammatical terminology such as the names of the tenses they already know, subject, auxiliary verb, negative form , etc. Length of Lesson: 60 mins Anticipated Problems : Anticipated problems: MEANING Students may find it hard to differentiate when to use the first and from other conditional. Solution: I will provide practice to students that the difference is about anticipation. FORM Students may make mistakes because of the language variation. Solution : I will provide students with practice opportunities with feedback and error correction to help reshape the process. PRONUNCIATION Students struggle to hear the indistinctively vocalized if will/would nor produce them, so often they sound too compelled . Solution: Students will be required to practice listening to improve their pronunciation and drilling the given conditional sentences .
