Assignment 1: Predictors of aggressive behavior in
psychotic patients I

1. Het onderzoeksdesign is cross-sectioneel. Tussen april 2008 en december 2009 werden
gegevens verzameld bij 3 psychiatrische ziekenhuizen in Nederland.
De steekproef is op de volgende manier verkregen: 200 patiënten zijn benaderd en
uitgenodigd om deel te nemen aan het onderzoek in de eerste twee weken van hun opname,
gediagnosticeerd met een psychotische stoornis. Patiënten werden uitgesloten als ze
comorbide as I of II diagnose en/of ernstige cognitieve verstoringen en/of als ze onder invloed
waren van medicatie dat significant hun alertheid verstoorde. Van de 200 patiënten waren er
145 die vrijwillig wilden deelnemen. 21 mochten niet deelnemen, omdat ze niet konden
worden getest. Uiteindelijk bleven er 124 patiënten over. Er kan niet met zekerheid gezegd
worden of ze alle mogelijke patiënten hebben meegenomen in de sample. Het is dus een non-
probability sample. De nieuwste patiënten zitten mogelijk niet in de sample.
Onderzoeksvraag: Kan agressief gedrag bij psychotische patiënten worden voorspeld door
psychotische symptomen (in het bijzonder TCO-symptomen) en de emotionele reactie op
zulke symptomen?
2. De afhankelijke variabele is agressief gedrag. De eerste onafhankelijke variabele is de
variabele “psychotische symptomen” die onder te verdelen is in positieve symptomen en TCO
(Threat/Control Override) symptomen. De tweede onafhankelijke variabele is de variabele
emotionele reacties op psychotische symptomen en is onder te verdelen in woede (anger) en
angst (anxiety). Beide onafhankelijke variabelen zijn between-subjects factoren. Het
meetniveau van alle variabelen is interval (continu).
De betrouwbaarheid van alle vragenlijsten is als volgt:
PANSS (Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale): α = .76.
o Positieve psychotische symptomen: α = .62.
o Negatieve psychotische symptomen: α = .70.
o Geassocieerde symptomen: α = .60.
TCOQ (Threat/Control Override Questionnaire):
