A pain assessment and an abdominal assessment. If the assessment causes pain for the patient, it is
an indication of appendicitis.
What actions do you think went well?
Assessing Sara Lin’s pain level and where it hurt were actions that gave me an understanding of the
pain she was experiencing.
Were there issues or problems that you identified during the simulation experience? Please list.
Yes, while palpating the abdomen the patient had rebound tenderness. Her facial expression
indicated pain while I was palpating.

EBP What assessment needs did you identify for Sara Lin?
Lower right abdomen pain that started yesterday and progressively got worse. Her pain
increased when she moved around. She had a full abdomen and pain assessment.
PCC Discuss additional nonpharmacologic actions that would be appropriate for managing Sara Lin’s
pain.
Having the patient verbalize the pain with COLDSPA . This knowledge could help to manage
the patients pain more effectively. Comfort the patient, teach patient relaxation and
breathing techniques.
T&C What preoperative teaching topics would be relevant to Sara Lin at this time?
I would educate the patient about the procedure she is about to have and recovery time. I
would educate her on medication she will be prescribed and the side effects.
PCC Describe the information you would include in a handoff report to a fellow nurse.
I would include the inclusive documentation in the medical record, I would give information
about patient’s current condition, surgery, pain level, when she could have her next dose of
