Intro to Anesthesia Exam 1 This type of anesthesia causes the loss of sensation throughout the entire body accompanied by loss of consciousness. - General Anesthesia This type of anesthesia results in the loss of sensation that encompasses a large body area such as an entire lower extremities. - Regional Anesthesia/neuraxial anesthesia This type of monitored anesthesia care where the patient can respond to verbal commands and their airway ventilation and cardiovascular functions are normal - Minimal Sedation (Anxiolysis) This type of monitored anesthesia care is where the patient is aroused by repeated or painful stimulation and airway and ventilation intervention may be required. - Deep Sedation This type of anesthesia where the patient responses to verbal or light tactile prompting and the airway ventilation and cardiovascular functions are usually adequate. What is this type of sedation also known as? - MAC Sedation Most surgical procedures are performed in this stage. - Stage III Injection of local anesthetics near nerve fibers to cause reversible loss of sensation over an area of the body. - regional/ peripheral nerve anesthesia Drug induced reversible state of unconsciousness. It includes amnesia analgesia loss of responsiveness decreased stress response and the loss of skeletal muscle reflexes to a varying degree. - general anesthesia Anesthesia where an anesthesia provider monitors the patient administers sedatives and minimum other agents as needed and provides medical services as needed. Patient is groggy but can follow instructions. - Monitored Anesthesia Care(MAC) -includes an anesthesia provider focused on airway hemodynamic and physiological derangements. General anesthesia is accomplished by the administration of a variety of drugs. This adjunct drug blocks the sensation of pain. - Analgesics General anesthesia is accomplished by the administration of a variety of drugs. This adjunct drug produces unconsciousness to block awareness of the procedure. - Hypnotic drugs General anesthesia is accomplished by the administration of a variety of drugs. This purpose of general anesthesia is known to block the memory of the events associated with the procedure. - Amnesia General anesthesia is accomplished by the administration of a variety of drugs. This purpose of general anesthesia is to block autonomic and other reflexes that may be affected by the procedure. The stage that airway manipulation should be avoided. - Stage II What does NPO stand for? - Nothing by mouth Spinal and Epidural anesthesia is called? - neuraxial anesthesia What does NEALS IV MAN(NEALSIVMAN) stand for? - Neosynephrine, Ephedrine, Atropine, Lidocaine, Succinylcholine, Induction agent, Versed, Muscle relaxant, Antibiotic, Narcotic The nemonic for setting up your Operating room. - MS MAID Stage and plane when there are intermittent cessations of respiration along with loss of corneal and laryngeal reflexes. - Stage III and Plane II Gaging, blinking, and swallowing, reflexes are lost. - phase 2 Number of Planes of anesthesia in phase III - four This phase begins with respiratory cessation and ends with potential death. - Stage 4(IV)

consciousness. - General Anesthesia

This type of anesthesia results in the loss of sensation that encompasses a large body area such as an
entire lower extremities. - Regional Anesthesia/neuraxial anesthesia

This type of monitored anesthesia care where the patient can respond to verbal commands and their
airway ventilation and cardiovascular functions are normal - Minimal Sedation (Anxiolysis)

This type of monitored anesthesia care is where the patient is aroused by repeated or painful
stimulation and airway and ventilation intervention may be required. - Deep Sedation

This type of anesthesia where the patient responses to verbal or light tactile prompting and the airway
ventilation and cardiovascular functions are usually adequate. What is this type of sedation also known
as? - MAC Sedation

Most surgical procedures are performed in this stage. - Stage III

Injection of local anesthetics near nerve fibers to cause reversible loss of sensation over an area of the
body. - regional/ peripheral nerve anesthesia

Drug induced reversible state of unconsciousness. It includes amnesia analgesia loss of responsiveness
decreased stress response and the loss of skeletal muscle reflexes to a varying degree. - general
anesthesia

other agents as needed and provides medical services as needed. Patient is groggy but can follow
instructions. - Monitored Anesthesia Care(MAC) -includes an anesthesia provider focused on airway
hemodynamic and physiological derangements.
