Understand the functioning of the human body systems
associated with energy metabolism.

Introduction
I will be producing an illustrated report that explains the structure and function of the
cardiovascular system and digestive system and what the systems does to aid the body in
producing energy.
Energy comes in multiple different forms these forms include chemical, heat, sound, electrical,
light and atomic. The most common form of energy is chemical energy, chemical energy joins
atom or molecules together or release energy to break bonds. The body needs energy for
multiple reasons such as growth and repair of muscles and bones, transmit nerve impulses
around the body, to breathe, circulate blood, lymph and tissue fluid, muscle activity and to
allow our body systems to work while we sleep. There are also energy laws this includes
conservation of energy this is when energy can change forms but cannot be created or
destroyed the energy is measures in joules. (Khan Academy 2019)

Cardiovascular system
The first organ in the cardiovascular system is the heart, the heart is divided into four different
chambers each chamber includes an atria and ventricle. The atria receives blood, the muscle in
the atria is very thin as the chambers do not need to create a lot of pressure as they are only
pushing the blood to the ventricles. In the right ventricle the walls are thicker so that the right
ventricle has enough pressure to be able to pump blood out of the heart. However, the walls
are not as thick as the left ventricles as they do not need to pump blood to the lungs. The left
ventricle has the thickest walls of the four chambers as it needs to pump the blood the furthest
it needs to pump the blood with enough pressure so that it can overcome the resistance of
systemic circulation on its way to the heart.

The purpose of the heart in the cardiovascular system is to pump blood through the body using
a variety of vessels to give individual cells the oxygen and nutrients they need and aids in
getting rid of waste we do not need. The heart also pumps blood to provide oxygen all around
the body but get rid of the carbon dioxide.
