1. What is “lean” as business strategy?
A Lean business strategy is a way how processes should be changed instead of
employees. Therefore, the focus of lean is also on the processes and not on the
employees. By using lean, there is a focus on the value of the end result looking
through the eyes of the customers, so if a process does not add value in the
eyes it can be seen as a wasteful process, and therefore it should be eliminated.
However, there are also a few processes that do not add value but are
necessary when creating the end product and those processes should be
reduced by using lean. This strategy includes pull systems where employees pull
the work towards themselves when they ready from the previous employees,
uses a single item flow, so that items will be produced 1 at a time to ensure the
most soonest delivery to the customer, non-added value work will be reduced
because that can be considered as waste and it is managed by insight rather
than results, numbers and calculations like traditional management.
2. Describe what use visualization of a process with a swim lane has.
When a swim lane is used it will visualize who is responsible for what is done in a
company and it will visualize where exactly the problems are occurring in a
process of a company.
