COVID-19 has affected students across the world and because of this there is a loss of
friendships and other deeper connections that are normally developed through college, high
school, and life in general. Finding out that students have new hobbies is something that is
really important, especially through the hard times that consume life today. Experimenting
and challenging oneself to different and new things can help them, and students, to then join
a club biased on this new form of enjoyment. As a result of joining the club there can be a
relationship made that are then made through deeper connections because there is something
for the students to relate to. Relating to a peer with the same interests will help students
connect on many different levels as well as having a deeper connection and build great
friendships. Every student wants this relationship with their peers, no matter the
circumstances. So, doing art during
COVID-19 will cause students to join a club at GCU or any other college.
Art Causes Students to Have Lower Mental Distress
Doing art projects during COIVD-19 causes students to start to feel a release of
negative energy when doing something artistic. By doing art projects during COIVD-19
students are bored, stressed, and have a need to figure out if they would like to branch out to
find new hobbies. As a result of finding new hobbies while semitonally doing different art
projects students can realize that art is something that piques an interest in them. Thus,
, explaining that a student would want to do artistic things more frequently which can cause
students to then turn to art for a release of energy. A release of energy causes students to feel
less stressed and happier. Consequently, students will be feeling a release of endorphins and
more at ease when they are doing something artistic. According to Wang et al. (2020) people
who had a frequent level of art participation in their lives were over all associated with lower
mental distress (p. 7). Meaning that people who had participated in different forms of art
through time they are able to feel less distressed and more satisfaction with their lives (p.7).
Regarding students, there are many different ways that students can find a release of this
negative energy and distress that is being felt. Due to this there is a sense of escape in art that
can consume students and take them out of the pressure that they are feeling in everyday life.
Therefore, explaining that students who tend to have a larger percentile of mental distress,
especially because COVID-19 has affected students in many different ways, that finding art
as a release of this negative energy causing them to want to continue doing artistic things.
Recognizing That GCU Has Programs and Clubs Regarding Art
When students start to feel a release of negative energy and lower levels of mental
distress form doing something artistic it causes students to recognize that GCU has multiple
programs and clubs regarding art. Therefore, students that feel a release of negative energy
from doing something artistic leads to them to wanting to be surround by other people that
also do artistic things. Out of personal experience there is many things that are benefitable
to surrounding yourself with people who like and enjoy the same things that you do. I really
loved art as a kid and when I went into high school, I didn’t have many friends, though it is
hard making comparisons from times before COVID-19 to present there is a sense of
loneliness that comes with both. Without having people surrounding me who enjoyed the
same hobbies as I did there was no room for me to connect to anyone on a deeper level or
have conversations about simple things, I enjoyed. I wanted to be surrounded by people who
enjoyed the same things as me because I knew that this would make me not only gain some
