Reflection on ENN 1504 Module
When I registered for ENN1504 I thought the module was going to be easier than
other modules I had registered for. It took me my first assignment to realize that my
knowledge and skills were very small. The study guide for ENN 1504 has helped me
to enhance my knowledge and understanding in terms of writing, language usage,
punctuation, and grammar.
What I found beneficial about this module is that when I go back to the place of work
my improved skills will open new doors for me and help me towards my goals and
building my career. I am now confident in my ability to write good English when it
comes to writing business documents such as reports, memorandums, minutes,
emails, and presentations. I had also acquired skills that include, information
gathering, drafting, editing, and proper use of language. The module as a whole has
enabled me to look further into specific areas that are of interest to me and those I
did not have high confidence in such as writing a report.
My challenges were with the previous assignments especially writing an investigative
report. According to how I was taught to write it in high school I thought I had nailed
it. Unfortunately, there were missing areas in my report writing skills such as the
content, logic, and language. The only minor challenge I would add would be in
regard to the formation of many questions especially in assignment one. Sometimes
I felt they were not thorough enough living me unsure if I understood the question or
would be able to answer it correctly.
In my previous employment, I used to write minutes for e-learning meetings, I would
have my colleagues asking for clarification. I feel more confident knowing that my
ability to write, express my ideas, thoughts, and knowledge has grown. I now know
the correct format, language and layout to use when writing minutes. The skills I
have acquired in the ENN1504 module will help me in my next job to stand out
among other co-workers and write professional business documents.
