Through the HRM function a company must mange the size of its company. One of the
more fundamental questions to answer is what will the size of the workforce be? Companies
need to track changing market conditions, fluctuating customer trends and changing internal
goals to evaluate their human resources strategy. They may need to let go of some
employees, hire new ones, and even shift existing employees around. When done
strategically this is called rightsizing. It is the process of monitoring and adjusting the
organization’s workforce to its optimal size and composition.
To understand if rightsizing if right for your company managers need to review the of
goals of the company. Has it been effective in meeting its target and have any internal or
external factors caused a shift in the objectives? Managers need to know if the company is
equipped with the

right people that fit those roles are even employed at the company. Managers must also be
forward thinking as it relates to future trends in the company’s particular industry. Could
