Feminism essay plans
TWE to feminists agree over the state?
Paragraph 1 agree
- Most feminists agree that the state reinforces the patriarchy and runs on the interest of men.
- They believe that the state facilitates inequality through denying rights and opportunities.
- This is supported by Simone D’ Beauvoir who argues that the state reinforces a male dominated
culture which limits the autonomy of women, and their freedom.
- Friedan the state reinforces women feeling as they have no access to public sphere through laws,
lack of laws.
- Millet argues that because of male dominance in politics so make laws to ensure their superiority
- Similarly Socialist feminist Sheila Rowbotham argues that the state facilitated capitalism and the
patriarchy which in turn oppresses women in society, the state facilitated the economic
exploitation.
- Despite agreement on causes their disagreements on the end result cause the ideology to become
too split
Paragraph 2 agree
- Most feminists believe that the state needs to be reformed in some sort way
- Both radical and socialist feminists believe large reforms need to occur.
- SR would have 2 revolutions one of the capitalist state and one if the patriarchy, similarly, kate
millet believes the patriarchy is deep rooted and therefore drastic change and overthrow of the
patriarchy is necessary.
Paragraph  disagree
- The solutions to get a feminist state fundamentally disagree
- Hooks would argue that adjusting the state to have freedom for women will just include white
women, from higher class to have more access to society. Therefore the perfect state is one which
is intersectional were everyone’s identity is acknowledged, education is freedom. more equality
in society
- Kate millet wants a state which is radically overthrown, argue in some ways men are too far gone
and therefore we need a state without them.
- Shelia Rowbotham needs a socialist state, which is already strong and create a socialist society
where men could be educated to create equality and a feminist state.
Paragraph 4disagree
- Liberal feminists want to achieve a state which creates equality of opportunity for women,
focussing on the white middle class women.
- Whereas bell hooks would say that the state need to be changed to be intersectional and address
the oppression that race, sexuality, and religion also bring to women arguing that Friedan focusses
on the white women instead of all women and the double oppression that many face.

, TWE do feminists agree over HN?
Paragraph 1 agree
- Most feminists believe that there is no difference between the HN of men and women.
- Majority of feminists are equality feminists and believes that gender distinctions are not based on
natural difference between men and women's human nature, this is an idea supported by de
Beauvoir.
- Similarly, Charlotte Perkins Gilman argue that women are equal to men and below logical
differences are largely irrelevant.
- Therefore, equality feminists reject that men and women, human nature is different.
Paragraph 2
- Most feminists believe that once the patriarchy has been overcome, gender distinctions will
become irrelevant, as they are social construct, not human nature.
- Majority of feminists argue that the patriarchy instils gender stereotypes on men and women
keeping women in subordinate position.
- Kate Millet argues that gender roles can be and should be challenged in order to improve the
position of women in society. A society requires women to adopt the feminine gender rose. She
argues that the gender distinctions are entrenched within society including in the literature.
- Charlotte Perkins Gilman argues that gender stereotypes are instilled from birth with children being
given gendered toys, clothes and colours.
Paragraph 3 disagree
- Families disagree over human nature and if men and women are fundamentally different.
- Different feminist Germaine Greer believes that men and women are biologically different, which
leads to different natures. GG argues that the differences in nature of men and women should be
celebrated as women are more empathetic and caring and that this should be viewed positively.
Challenging the feminists (which most are) which wish to be equal to men arguing that women’s
natural abilities are superior.
- However, equality feminists argue biological differences are irrelevant and that men and women’s
human nature is the same.
Paragraph 4 disagree
- Liberals argue that gender stereotyping can be removed through reform in political rights,
education and legal protections. Women have choice/free will to take on the roles they choose and
that men can change too to be the house husband.
- Radicals patriarchy is systemic, deep rooted and therefore needs radical change, arguing that the
liberal approach doesn’t go far enough. Sex used as a means to control women Personal is political
– power/control in relationships. Abolition of nuclear family, some believe the only way women
can be free of male dominance is lesbianism.
