, The Summary
Chapter 1: The Book
Artemis and Butler travel to Ho Chi Minh City in Asia. They meet their informant Nguyen Xuan.
They’re guided to a fairy by Nguyen Xuan. The fairy is drunk and Artemis promised her a drink that
would get all the alcohol out of her body if the fairy gives Artemis and Butler a special book. The
Book is a sort of bible for fairies. The fairy gives the book and she gets the alcohol-removing
drink.

Chapter 2: Translation
All the fairies (leprechauns, elves, sprites, etc.) are called The People. The Book written in
Gnommish. Angeline Fowl hears weird sounds. Angeline is very bedridden (ill, won’t come out of
bed) and upset by the probable death of Artemis Senior (Artemis’s father). Artemis deciphered the
book by translating it to Egyptian symbols, and then setting the words in a good order. Artemis
could now read the entire book just by deciphering it. The family Fowl is a criminal family. Artemis
Senior had set the Fowl family’s fortune in jeopardy. He invested in shipping lines to Russia, but
The Russian Ma a didn’t like Western people doing their business. The Russian Ma a had sent a
missile to the ship Artemis Senior was on, and the ship exploded. No one has heard or seen from
Artemis Senior since, and so people start to think that he died on the ship. Artemis wants to
restore the fortune of his family by nding gold by using the book.

Chapter 3: Holly
Holly hurried up to work and got a bit too late because the tra c in the city was bad. She lives
together with the other fairies inside the Earth’s crust, near the core. Commander Root was mad
at her for being 1 minute too late. He always focuses on her, because she’s the only female in
Recon, ever. She’s sort of a test case, and so Commander Root demands from her that she tries
her best. She had failed operation in Hamburg and wasn’t doing good enough as a “test case” so
she was going to get red, until news came in of a troll running on the surface of the Earth. Trolls
are really big, hairy, and are very strong. They can rip esh and bones in half like spaghetti! This
was her last chance, her last chance to proof she’s suitable for the job. Holly went into a shuttle
and went to the Earth’s surface. She had to pass through magma and her trip felt for her like it
took a long time. When she arrived at the Earth’s surface, she put on wings and ew to the troll’s
location. It had already entered an Italian restaurant of the Mud People. The People (all the fairies)
call the humans the Mud People. She decided not to wait for Commander Root and his crew but
to take down the troll herself because she heard a human scream “Help!”. She grabbed the visor
and shot the troll with 800 watts. Then she threw a sphere to all the Mud People (humans) having
diner. While the Mud People were asleep because of the sphere, Commander Root and his crew
arrived. They wiped the memories of every human in the Italian restaurant and repaired the hole in
the restaurant in which the troll entered. Holly thought that she would lose her job at Recon
(because of deciding to take out the troll herself), but Root wasn’t that mad and didn’t mention
her losing her job. He was mad at her because she didn’t complete the Ritual weeks ago. The last
time she completed it was 4 years ago! The Ritual gives fairies magic. To complete the Ritual, a
fairy must pick a seed from an ancient oak tree by the bend in a river during the full moon. Holly
didn’t have any more magic in her, she used a lot of it to ght the troll. With the magic The People
(fairies) can heal, use mesmer (letting someone do whatever you want by looking in their eyes)
and shield. Shield means that they’re invisible to the human eyes. Fairies vibrate at such high
frequencies that they’re never in one place too long to be seen by humans.

Chapter 4: Abduction
Artemis wanted to go and capture a fairy by trapping one at an ancient oak tree. Holly ew across
countries to arrive at an ancient oak tree. She could go to two ancient oak trees, but the rst
ancient oak tree was very popular amongst fairies. She didn’t want a crowded oak tree so she
chose for oak tree two. Holly found a seed. During that, Artemis’s caught a small gure near an
ancient oak tree. Artemis and Butler hurried up there. Butler shot at the fairy by the oak tree, but
she coincidentally bent her body down. Holly felt something whizzing over her head. She was
under re! Holly tried to use mesmer on Artemis, but he brought mirrored lenses so that mesmer
didn’t work on him. Then Butler shot Holly and she faded into consciousness...
