1 CONTEXTUAL QUESTIONNAIRE – QUESTION ONE (5 Marks)
Answer the following open-ended questions to the best of your ability and give as much
information as possible.
1.Describe the school where you did your practical teaching (location, age, facilities,
how many learners are enrolled at the school, how many teachers teach at the
school, the language of learning and teaching, and so forth).
The location of_______________________________________. The school has
enough amenities, including well-ventilated classrooms with ceiling fans, an office
and staff room area, a playground for sporting and exercise activities, an art
classroom, and separate restrooms for male and female students and employees.
The school has roughly 600 kids enrolled and about 26 teachers that teach a variety
of courses and grades. Except for the first additional language, which is English,
Afrikaans is the primary language of instruction at the school. Teachers teach
students in these languages before continuing with their explanations in Afrikaans.
New educators enjoy the welcoming atmosphere at the school, and the staff and
other faculty members are always willing to provide a hand when they can.
2. Describe the classroom in which you did your practical teaching (size, facilities,
learning and teaching support materials, classroom atmosphere, and so forth).
In a sizable, well-ventilated classroom with enough room to move around, I practiced
teaching. The classroom was disinfected prior to students arriving, and they were
instructed to sanitize at the door prior to entering the classroom. There were sufficient
fans to circulate the air in the room, two sets of doors, and suitable windows that were
all open. We had to use worksheets that my mentor had prepared for us because
there wasn't enough textbooks or study materials to use for studying and teaching.
3.Describe the learners you taught during your practical teaching (number per
class, degree of readiness to learn, their home environmental conditions, and
so forth).
In the course of my teaching practice, I had a class of 31 students in Grade 6. These
students weren't prepared for learning because they simply attended class when
they felt like it. They do not finish their classwork or homework because they want it
all delivered to them. I succeeded in finishing my lesson because it was essential
practice for the test the following day. The majority of the students go long distances
on foot, ride the bus, or take a taxi to get to school because they have limited access
to decent living circumstances and come from disadvantaged origins. Due to
financial hardships, parents who don't work, or parents who have too little money to
acquire necessities, the majority of the pupils in the class don't even bring lunch to
school.
4. Describe how the COVID-19 pandemic changed the teaching and learning
practices at this school.
At least one good thing has come out of the COVID-19 pandemic: people now
understand much better the value of public education. The difficulty faced by parents
in caring for their children at home as a result of school closings has increased public
awareness of the crucial caregiver function that schools play in society. Parents'
appreciation for teachers, their abilities, and their crucial role in students' well-being
has increased as youth struggle to study at home. Decision-makers are forced to
