Syllabus
A multi-syllabus lesson was chosen to design Alberto’s course. This learner-centred syllabus is based on a combination of topics, structures,
vocabulary items and skills practice. The reason for choosing this type of syllabus is that the student is at an intermediate level and is
already confident with his English writing skills due to past learning experiences. Therefore, the focus will not solely be on grammar.
However, it will also not be excluded as it would be beneficial to his learning needs. The focus is based on the students’ needs: to improve
his English listening, speaking and pronunciation skills. Alberto lacks confidence when it comes to speaking English. This might be due to his
perceived accent and pronunciation problems. Also, this might be the reason for his limited conversational comprehension and
understanding abilities. Although Alberto has a substantial foundation in writing, there is still a lot of areas that could need some attention
for him to become more fluent in English and to achieve the purpose of the course.
