,1.1 The term social order can be used in two senses. Inthe first sense, it refers to a particular set or system of
linked social structures, institutions, relations, customs,
values and practices, which conserve, maintain and
enforce certain patterns of relating and behaving.
Social order refers to the way in which a society is
organized along with certain rules and standards that
are set forth in order to maintain that organization. In
a social order, individuals within a society mingle,
interact and live together within unique and stable
arrangements of institutions
1.2 Socialism is a system in which every person in the
community has an equal share of the various elements
of production, distribution, and exchange of resources.
Such a form of ownership is granted through a
democratic system of governance. Socialism has also
been demonstrated through a cooperative system in
which each member of the society owns a share of
communal resources.
1.3(a) Society refers to a social community or group of
people sharing a common culture, values, beliefs, and
norms that govern their behaviour and relationships. A
society can be defined by geographical boundaries,
cultural practices, economic activities, language,
religion, and political systems. One example of a
, society is the Japanese society, characterized by its
unique culture, language, religion, and value systems,
such as respect for authority, diligence, and collective
responsibility.
(b) Deviance refers to any behaviour or action that
violates the norms, values, and expectations of a
society or social group. Deviance can be categorized as
social, cultural, and personal deviance, depending on
the degree of conformity to social norms. Deviant
behaviours can range from minor infractions such as
littering to serious criminal acts such as rape and
murder. An example of deviance is drug addiction,
which is considered a social deviance because it
violates social norms surrounding drug use and
addiction.
1.4 To teach the aim of developing new social patterns
in the classroom, educators can design lesson plans
that encourage critical thinking, collaborative learning,
and creativity. Students can be assigned group projects
that require them to analyse and reflect on current
social patterns and propose new ideas that can help
resolve existing social issues. For example, students
can be tasked with examining the access to education
in different cultural contexts and propose policies that
bridge the gaps in access to education. Alternatively,
students could analyse the way that students from
