Abstract

Deze studie gaat over de ouderbetrokkenheid in het basisonderwijs ten tijde van de

coronapandemie. In huidige studie wordt ouderbetrokkenheid gedefinieerd als school-based

ouderbetrokkenheid. Hieronder vallen activiteiten zoals ouder-leerkrachtgesprekken, helpen

en kijken in het klaslokaal, het bijhouden van de prestaties van het kind, het bijwonen van een

informatieavond of het helpen bij een klassenuitje. Ouderbetrokkenheid is een belangrijk

onderdeel van de leerstrategie van kinderen en hangt positief samen met de leerprestaties.

Sinds het begin van de coronapandemie waren ouders nauwelijks in staat de basisscholen in

Nederland te betreden en er werd in deze studie daarom verwacht dat de ouderbetrokkenheid

is verminderd. Tot nog toe is er weinig tot geen onderzoek gedaan naar deze probleemstelling.

Er werd gekeken naar de invloed van de coronapandemie die door de ouders werd

ervaren op de school-based ouderbetrokkenheid en er werd onderzocht welke nuttige

inzichten voor de toekomst hieruit volgen. Er werd een onlinevragenlijst voor ouders

opgesteld aan de hand van gegevens uit een literatuurstudie en verkennende interviews met

leerkrachten. In dit embedded mixed methods design, werden naast overwegend open vragen,

ook een aantal kwantitatieve vragen in de vragenlijst gesteld, om de resultaten extra te

bevestigen. Uit de vragenlijst bleek dat de school-based ouderbetrokkenheid ten tijde van de

coronapandemie sterk verschilde met de periode daarvoor. Ouders omschreven het gevoel van

afstandelijkheid, doordat ze niet meer in de school mochten komen. De school hield ouders op

de hoogte via het oudercommunicatieplatform en nieuwsbrieven. Deze nieuwe onlinevorm

werd positief ontvangen, maar ouders gaven aan dat deze invulling niet het echte contact heeft

kunnen vervangen. Ondanks dat het optimale is geprobeerd, is er geen alternatief gevonden.

Abstract

This study is about parental involvement in primary education in times of the corona

pandemic. In this research, parental involvement is defined as school-based parental

involvement. This includes activities such as parent-teacher conversations, looking around in

the classroom, keeping up with the learning achievements of the child, going to a open school

evening or helping out on a class trip. Parental involvement is an important part of the

learning strategy of children and school results are positively influenced hereby. Parents could

not enter the primary schools in the corona pandemic and therefore the hypothesis was formed

that the parental involvement has been reduced in this period. There has been very little

research on this subject before.

This article studies the impact of the corona pandemic experienced by the parents on

the school-based parental involvement. There is also a search for useful lessons from this

period for the future. An online questionnaire for parents has been conducted with insights of

a literature study and exploratory interviews with teachers. In this embedded mixed methods

design not only qualitative questions were asked, but also a few quantitative questions. The

results could hereby be extra confirmed. From the answers of the online questionnaire

appeared that the school-based parental involvement in times of the corona pandemic is

heavily different from the period before the corona pandemic. Parents did describe the feeling

of distance, because they were no longer aloud in the schools. The school kept the parents

updated through the parent communication platform and newsletters. This new and online-

form was positively received, but parent admitted that this form could not fully replace the

real life contacts. The optimal has been tried, but an alternative has not been found.
