A. During my teaching practice, I was placed at Tshepo-Morena
Secondary School located in Johannesburg, South Africa. I
primarily taught Grade 9 learners.
B. The learner population at Tshepo-Morena Secondary School
was very diverse in terms of backgrounds, including different
, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. There was also
diversity in learning abilities, ranging from high achievers to
those needing additional support.
C. My decision to choose Geography was influenced by my
interest in environmental issues and my belief in the
importance of understanding how human actions impact the
Earth's landscapes and ecosystems.
D. The specific learning goals I aimed to achieve during my
teaching practice included developing map skills, understanding
geographical concepts like climate and vegetation zones, and
fostering critical thinking about global environmental issues.
E. Reflecting on my teaching goals, I believe I largely achieved
them. Assessment involved regular quizzes, map interpretation
tasks, and projects. Factors that supported my progress
included supportive colleagues and access to teaching
resources. Challenges included large class sizes and varying
levels of student engagement.
F. My relationship with my Geography mentor was supportive
and collaborative. They provided guidance on lesson planning
and classroom management strategies. With learners, I built
rapport through interactive lessons and being attentive to their
individual learning needs.
G. One memorable Geography lesson was on climate zones. It
lasted 60 minutes and involved using maps and climate data
