President Trump’s anti-Muslim rhetoric and policy Student’s Name Institutional Affiliation Date Over the years, Muslims in America have been facing terror and turmoil, and th rough current events like the 9/11 shootings, it was confirmed that the lives of Muslims in the country are at risk. Most Americans are guilty of anti-Islamic and anti-Muslim discriminatory practices, which is evident from how the common Islamic person is treated in public. The most shocking fact about anti-Muslimism is that the prejudice comes from the public and political leaders who should be fighting to protect the lives of all citizens in the country. The former President of the United Stated got himself in a not-so-good situation when he went on a Twitter rant in 2016 to talk about the Islam ban. In 2016, the Anti-Muslimism ban became a heated debate and issue, and this was after Trump won the elections against Hillary Clinton. Throughout his political career, Trump focused on making sure that the Islamic religion was controlled and banned from accessing American soil. Through his Islamophobic tweets, he was not shy to use rhetoric language to point out that there was a significant difference between Americans and other groups by using words such as them or us. His main viewpoint of the Islamic ban was also experienced by the use of words such as Make America Great Again. Therefore, this paper develops the argument that Trump, through his leadership, was using rhetoric language and strategies to promote Anti-Islamic policies in America. In his leadership term as the President of the United States, Trump used the social platform Twitter as an outlet for his thoughts and views on many things. Twitter has been ranked as one of the most effective platforms in spreading awareness about many issues. Through the platform, Trump spread Islamophobia through many of his tweets, and this was detrimental to the Islamic community and other non-binary groups in America. Trump, therefore, used language as a form of spreading the anti-Muslim Policy that he had championed during his campaign. According to (Haniffa, 2015) the Anti-Muslim was pushed by President Trump through his agenda of killing all terrorists and making America Great Again. According to Trump, President Obama had allowed Muslims in the country, and this had become a threat to the people of America. In his MAGA argument, he was rhetorically hinting that he would bring back America's glory by getting rid of Muslims and creating policies that would make it hard for Muslims to enter America. The problem with Trump's tweets is that they created a community that created hatred towards the principle of the Islamic community, causing fear and exclusion from political and social affairs. Because of this, many Muslims are viewed as terrorists, extremists, and radicals, making people fear them because they associate them with hostile behavior. During his campaign period in 2015, Trump used Islamophobia as his main tool of the campaign, and this is where his rhetoric Anti-Muslim Policy began. Through this period, he made a joke that Americans were getting robbed by Muslims and this insensitive statement was to imply that Muslims were contributing to crime rise and he would be committed to bringing the change that America wanted. Through such a statement, Trump is seen championing the Anti-Muslims Policy, without directly saying that he does not want Muslims in America. After he took office, the number of Muslim immigrants in America reduced significantly, and this was a form of saying he was committed to ensuring that the number of Muslims in the country is reduced, and this was his form of implementing the Anti-Muslim Policy without being loud about it. In one of his rallies, Trump commented by saying, "Islam hates us," and this was a trigger to push for the Anti-Muslim Policy, and his statement was used to imply that the Muslims were the enemy of the west (Lengel & Smidi, 2018). Because of this, statements like us vs. them and west vs. east became very popular from some of his speeches. Many Americans were meant to believe that there was a problem between them and the Muslims, and this pushed for more Islamophobic words from other Americans. Trump used his tweets to construct his identity as an American citizen strategically, and because of this, other Americans felt the same way and used his theory to identify themselves as Americans. He strategically used this to unite Americans by making them feel like it was them against other groups, like the Muslims. Through this, he created the idea that Muslims will never own the full American identity, and this his smart way of creating an Anti-Muslim policy without directly championing it. He also used Hillary Clinton as a weak link to promote his Anti-Muslim Policy. She always referred to Clinton as a part of them, showing that he always took the side of Muslims and showed them a lot of mercy, and he did this to make himself that he was the person Americans needed in Making America Great Again and saving them from Muslim terror. Further than that, he went ahead to tweet, "Hillary's wars in the Middle East have unleashed destruction, terrorism, and ISIS across the world," and through these words, he completely threw Hillary under the bus (Khan, 2020). He uses the words to argue that Hillary's alliance with the Muslims would bring terror to America's people and therefore make her an unfit candidate for the presidency. Therefore, he uses these words to warn people of the dangers of having an Islamic relation as it would be a recipe of terrorism and hence the promotion of his Anti-Muslim Policy. Conclusively, through his presidential term, Trump made sure that America saw the dangers of the Muslim community through his rhetoric tweets and his campaign tweets. Because of this, Trump created an Islamophobic country where Muslims faced prejudice and discrimination from Americans. Through the analysis of his speech, he also succeeded in creating a polarity of us vs. them, and this painted Muslims in a bad light. As a world leader, he should have been more sensitive to the group and even created ways to bring unity among all Americans. References Haniffa, F. (2015).
