, Are you already affected by the school cafeteria food? A tsunami of junk food is
striking the entire world including the school canteens. The school should do
something about this! Non-nutritious meals don’t provide us with the nutrients
that our body needs. However, we think that selling healthy food at the school
cafeteria will be better for the students and performance in class. We need
nutritious lunches at school so the students stay active throughout the day.
First let’s look at why we think that healthy food should be sold at the school
cafeteria. Low-fat and nutritious school meals support the education of
schools. Healthy lunches especially boost the concentration and focus of
students. Researches have shown that improved nutrition in schools leads to
better attention and focus during classes.
Secondly, not all parents can provide their children with a nutritious breakfast
and dinner. Therefore, some students would like to try a healthy snack or lunch
from the school canteen. When there is no opportunity to eat healthily,
students are more likely to get obese. For instance, there is an increasing
number of children with obesity in our country. It is a serious disease that must
stop and schools are responsible for that. In other words, it has to be reduced!
Besides, healthy food can have a positive effect on children’s performances in
class. This can be seen in grades and physical education classes. Because
students can concentrate better they will be able to get higher grades. But the
performance at home will also go up. When children choose healthy meals at
school, they will make better choices at home too. This way they can
concentrate better on studying for tests and other school assignments. As a
result, students get higher marks.
However, some people might think that this decision will take away the choice
of the students. This is not true at all. The students can still bring their own
food to school and there are enough places outside the school where the kids
can get unhealthy food. Furthermore, people say that selling nutrient-rich food
punishes students, this is not true either. Healthy food is not a punishment and
schools have to show that nutritious food can also be delicious! And like we
said, you can still go somewhere else or bring your own food when you want to
eat unhealthily.
