Managing an Event
, Managing an event
Managing an event simply refers to managing an occasion which involves so many elements such as
managing a team, organiser the event, ensuring necessary facilities are in place, ensuring safety etc and the
organiser is full responsible. This could be an educational event, business event, launching a new business
event, award event and so on. A successful event consists of managing it effectively, planning, resources
and following the legal expects of an event.
Key roles of an event organiser are planning, communicating with the team members, location, catering,
ensuring security and facilities to ensure participants has everything they need and can enjoy the event for
a better outcome. Key skills an event organiser needs are organizing, communicating, time management,
interpersonal, negotiation and problem solving.
Organiser Skills
Communication: An organiser must have effective communication skill to enable to interact with any
person. The communication could be verbally, written and sign language. Communication is a very
important skill for an organiser to master or skillful at. When an organiser allocates tasks to the team
members, he/she would need to communicate effectively which means providing clear information,
allocate right task for the right team member, ensuring the team members are aware of their task.
Communicating with other external stakeholders such as the participants through emails, or leaflets to
make aware of the event where the organiser should clarify about the event location, date and facilities
they have on the event.
Time Management: Time management simply means how you would manage your time and maintaining
good productivity. Good punctuality. Being on time can benefit everyone as it helps to maintain
productivity. An organiser should be time friendly to balance all the work which needs to be done on time.
Failure to do so can cause delay in the event and this may also lead to not generating enough capital from
the event. He/she needs to finish the pre-meeting with the team members on time to ensure everyone is
aware of their responsibilities which would also enable the team to be productive and carry out a successful
event.
