DPR2605 Assignment 3 (ANSWERS) Semester 2 2023 - DISTINCTION GUARANTEED Answers, guidelines, workings and references ....................................................... Introduction [2.5] The introduction has to provide a general overview of each topic that was discussed in this assignment. While writing the introduction, a logical flow of ideas needs to be maintained. The introduction should not have been written in bullet format, but rather in essay format. 1. The original brief for this social marketing programme was to develop a better smoking cessation service. However, as we have seen, the revised service offer incorporated a wide range of additional programmes, such as weight and stress management. What challenges might arise from increasing the scope of a programme like this, and how might you manage these challenges? [8] 2. What methodology was used in this qualitative study? [2] 3. Name the four barriers found in the case study and the responses that the programme had to these barriers? [8] 4. One of the key insights from this case study was that staff needed support and training to enable them to work across a range of health specialities (i.e. not just smoking cessation). What other approaches, beyond staff training, would help you to embed a programme and ensure that its sustainability was not threatened by local resistance to organisational change? (Your answer must be related specifically to the case study) [6] 5. What were the revised aims and objectives of this programme after further research? And how were these outcomes going to be measured by Vitality? [6] 6. Vitality is still growing and developing three years after its launch. As opposed to more time-bound, short-interval interventions, this illustrates how social marketing can involve a long-term, sustained process of change. How might your approach to developing and managing a long-term social marketing programme differ from a shorter-term campaign, and what steps would you need to take to ensure the longevity of your programme? (Your answer must be related specifically to the case study not some steps you found on Google) [10] 7. Using the Vitality case study as an example, and the additional reading given at the end of the case study, develop an social marketing intervention programme that is targeted at Grade 10 – 12 Students in Gauteng schools who are smokers. This intervention programme will run for 12 months. You will use the FOUR-STEP formula which followings these four steps: defining the problem; planning and programming; taking action and communicating; evaluating the programme for your intervention programme (Revisit your DPR1505 lessons to understand how this formula is applied). Your programme you will need to highlight the strategies you will use to meet this targeted audience, actions and activities that will be taken to stop smoking among these grade 10 – 12 students, and what communication tools you will use in this programme. The allocated budget will be 20 million, so you need to include a breakdown in table format of how this budget will be utilized. We want to see that the students applied each and every step in the process according to the formula, please use sub-headings in your answer so the marker can easily access your answer. [30] Mark breakdown: • defining the problem [5] • planning and programming [5] • taking action and communicating [10] • budget breakdown [5] • evaluating the programme [5] Conclusion [2.5] Your conclusion must summarise the discussion in your assignment. Tutorial Letter CMNALLE/301 contains guidelines on writing a conclusion.
