The well-known TV series that is being chosen for this paper is Dexter. Dexter originally
aired on Showtime and can now be streamed on Netflix. This series follows the life of Dexter
Morgan, who is a police officer for Miami Metro Police Department by day and a serial killer by
night. The character that is being chosen for the analysis within this paper is the main character
of the series, Dexter Morgan. This paper will explore Dexter’s demographics, history, the
presenting problems within his life, and how other psychodynamic theorists would explain his
psychological issues.
Demographics
Born on February 15, 1971(“Virtual space,” 2016), Dexter Morgan is a middle-aged
white male, with a tan.He has green eyes, dark hair, remains physically fit, and stands at an
average height. Dexter lives in Miami Florida and is a Miami Metro Police blood spatter analyst
in the homicide department. Throughout the series, watchers learn that, aside from his day job,
Dexter is a vigilante serial killer and eventually, a lumberjack.
History
Not much is known about Dexter’s early years of life due to the fact that he was adopted.
Dexter was adopted by a man named Harry Morgan, who was a detective in Miami, and his wife
named Doris. Throughout the series watchers learn that Dexter had difficult childhood
experiences that led to the criminal behavior in his adult life. Harry ledDexter to believe that his
birth parents were killed in a car accident that Harry was working on. However, the truth is, three
years into Dexter’s life he witnessed his birth mother, Laura Moser, be murdered in a brutal
manner. Dexter was left sitting in her blood for multiple days. There is also more to the story of
how Harry Morgan came to be Dexter’s adopted father. Laura Moser was actually a police
