A clinical setting within a healthcare facility builds on the experience a patient has when arriving.
Many believe the experience will have long wait times to be able to see their doctor. While conducting

this SWOT analysis, I took a look at Pediatric and OB/GYN clinic. I will be looking for any strengths,
weaknesses, opportunities and threats while conducting my visit.
Strengths
As I walked around the clinic, I observed patients when they entered the building, walked to the
waiting room, and while they exited. Each patient that I watched expressed relief when conversating
with the front office personal. They seem relaxed and assured that the front office staff would be able to
answer any of their questions and schedule their follow up appointments while they were checking in.
When I walked behind the desk to observe the view from the front office staff employee’s I was able to
sense the relaxation and knowledge that each employee had. When employees know their jobs and
build a rapport with each of their patients, the beginning of any patient’s experience is refreshing and
comfortableBlayney, D. W. (2008).
Weaknesses
The clinics weaknesses out weight the strengths in my opinion only in the way the buildings
blueprint was designed. The front desk is located at the entrance of the building, once the patients are
done checking in for their appointment or their children’s appointments, they have to walk a distance to
the waiting room. While patients are in the waiting room there is not a clinical personal to answer
questions or to provide updates to the patients waiting. I have considered this a weakness due to the
safety of patients and the patients are also unable to communicate with staff for any updates.
Opportunities
The clinical staff had a great start to my observation.After talking with a staff member I was
made aware of an opinion. That opinion would be a great opportunity to cut down check-in times and
great a better experience for patients, a computer software upgrade. The staff member let me know
that our company has a new software that is being used but not to the full capacity. When talking to this
staff member they said that only half of the features for the software are currently being used, to
