Introduction
In this assignment I will be explaining key qualities of what it takes to be a
citizen and its effect on the public services. This is a useful task for me as I can
increase my knowledge on the qualities that I will have to undertake in the
public services and what I will have to expect as a serving member.
, Task 1
Citizenship - Citizenship is the state or being a member of a country where
you have rights, for example if you own a British passport your are pronounced
as being a British citizen. Citizenship is related to the public services as not
only do you have to prove your citizenship when you apply for your role, you
become a citizen of that public service and you need to prove that by obeying
rules and acting like a good citizen. You are also representing your citizenship
when you where the uniform.
Diversity - Diversity is the understanding that every individual is their own
person and we shall not criticise or use this against them. An example of this
would be someones; race, gender, ethnicity , sexual orientation, age, physical
abilities and other ideologies. In the public services diversity it is important for
a well structured work place, by this I mean that the employees or trainees
mental health and well being will be increased, encouraging them to work
more as and they will feel safe and belonged, which is also beneficial for how
well they work together and as a team but its will also benefit the business or
service itself. An example of diversity would be as followed; A British Royal air
force member who is of a darker coloured skin. Just because he has a different
coloured skin does not mean he is different nor incapable of his job. It is
important that diversity is normalised and that everyone is treated equally
despite their differences. A quote by Mahatma Gandhi clearly expresses
diversity well “no culture can live if it exempts to be exclusive”
Racism/racist - Racism or racialism is discriminating or going against
someones particular racial or ethnic group. A racist is someone who
discriminates against a racial or ethnic group. In the public services they have
a zero tolerance racism policy, by this it means that if there is any racism then
the person who committed the obligation will be immediately removed from
that said public service. The reason why this is done as in the public services
they are all treated equally; equal pay, equal opportunities and equal amounts
of respect and racism goes against this. A huge importance in the public
service is working as a team and being a racist or proceeding to racism means
that they are not delivering the amount of matureness and respect, concluding
too bad teamwork and singling someones out for their differences. Currently in
the uk an act of racism under the implementation of the legislation on racially
aggravated offences in the crime and disorder act 1998 can find people who
commit racism with a fine and person sentence long with a police record. An
example of racism would be Ahmaud Arbery. Ahmaud, a 25 year old male was
brutal shot dead whilst running in Georgia on 23rd February 2020, he was
unarmed and pursued by 3 white males in a two pick up trucks who decided to
shoot him because of his race. “His death affected a family, some finds and
struck the nations as people were mortified that this happened yet some
people think its totally normalised to do this” a spokesman said. Recently there
was also the death of George Floyd who was brutally murdered in broad
daylight as an American police officer placed his knee on his neck for 7 minutes
causing him to die from lack of oxygen. It's not only civilians that can be racist
or commit racism but its also the people we trust the most, for example the
