When the new school year begins in Riverdale, the entire city still mourns the death of Jason
Blossom. On July 14, his body is found. According to Cheryl, the two of them were canoeing on the
river, but the canoe stopped and he drowned. However, research shows that Jason was murdered
and his death is not an accident. Meanwhile, Archie Andrews has had a good summer and after a
forbidden relationship with his music teacher miss Grundy, he finds out he wants to become a
musician. His father, Fred Andrews, is skeptical about this and would rather see his son succeed his
construction company. Archie asks for help from the popular Josie McCoy, who has her own band.
Archie's years of friendship with Jughead is at stake. The two don't see each other anymore and
Archie's also tearing down the drive-in cinema (where Jughead lives) to build houses. Archie's
neighbor girl, Betty Cooper, has a crush on Archie, but doesn't dare say so. She's having a hard time
with her mother Alice, who has neurotic moods. The first day of school the rich Veronica Lodge
comes to the school as a new student. It soon becomes known that Veronica's family has lost the
entire fortune and her father is in prison. Her mother, Hermione Lodge, takes her to Riverdale
(where she grew up) to escape the attention of the press in New York. However, through a message
this becomes known.
Cheryl takes revenge on the perpetrator, after she hears that Jason's death was not an accident.
Betty and Jughead later decide to investigate the case themselves through the school news
magazine. Later it turns out that Cheryl helped Jason run away. Jason had fathered a child from
Betty's sister, Polly. The Cooper family and Blossom argue about the inheritance of the maple syrup
factory. This is entirely in the hands of the Blossoms, who are therefore very rich. The Cooper family
had taken Polly to a psychiatric institution. According to Alice Cooper, this would have had to do with
the fact that Polly needed psychological help, but in reality it had mainly to do with the pregnancy.
