4 Subject: Seven years after the world was covered in ice
and became a frozen wilderness, Snowpiercer focuses on the remains of mankind. It is an enormous
long train of no less than 1001 wagons, which continuously travels around the world. These are class
war, social injustice and the politics of survival.
B Summary:
Layton is still recovering, after it was taken out of the drawers by Josie. She is taking him to Dr.
Pelton. Dr. Pelton reveals that there is a blacklist for the drawers. These are people she thinks are
enemies of the state and are the target of imprisonment. That list is only owned by Layton, Josie and
the doctor. During a short circuit, Snowpiercer's hydraulics are damaged and there is a danger that
the train might derail on a Canyon bridge. Because Melanie designed the train, she knows the train
inside out. She manages to solve the problem just in time, saving the train from its demise. During
this crisis, Layton confronts Melanie with the intentions to kill her. Melanie had put Layton in the
drawers because he knew the truth. She explains to Layton that the drawers are not meant to hold
people captive, but are a lifeboat for four hundred people who have been specially selected. This is in
case the order is disturbed and the standstill is the only chance for the human race to survive. Layton
had no choice and had to let Melanie go so she could save the train. In the end, he ends up having
sex with Josie, to whom he tells the truth about Melanie. Oz threatens Till to give him free rein to
rape the passengers in exchange for some kind of drugs. Their experience of being so close to
death has made her refuse to follow his demands any further. After Suzanne's death, Tail came up
with the idea of setting up a projector so you can see the outside world. Melanie shows interest in
Miles' development as an engineer and tells that Mr. Wilford needs a favor from him.
C personal opinion:
I think it's a nice series and the suspense was built up well from the start. Especially in this episode. A
lot of questions come into your head, for example whether or not the train has derailed and if
Melanie manages to make it, without getting hurt herself. I also wondered why Melanie had lied to
Layton and locked him up. When you watch the series, you get answers to your questions. That's why
I like watching this series. I also wanted to know why Melanie lied about Mr. Wilford
