You are the regional manager of a significant consumer bank. Your branches are located in
an area of a major city that is primarily populated by a variety of different races and
cultures. At a recent area management and supervisors meeting you noticed that the room
was, for the most part, filled with Caucasians. You decide to investigate the impact this
situation might have on your business. You will also develop an action plan that will
address the situation if you determine action is warranted.
As the regional manager of a significant consumer bank with branches located in an
area of a major city that is primarily populated by a variety of different races and cultures, I
would want my employees to be of a variety of different races and cultures. It would benefit
my business to have a workforce that more correctly reflected the cultural make-up of the
community it serves because customers are able to better relate to the employees. The
employees are able to grasp a better understanding of what customers want and need from the
business by accurately reflecting the cultural make-up of the community. Diversity creates a
more conducive work environment and it brings out the best in employees. If the community
these banks are servicing sees a diverse setting, they are more likely to support them because
they are able to see themselves in the business. If the bank’s workforce has cultural diversity
that more accurately reflects the cultural make-up of the community it serves, they are less
likely to have issues with stereotypes, prejudices and discrimination. Having a diverse
workforce improves the brand image as well.
