Have you ever thought about cultural capital? The things that we own are a part of
culture capital. Through this, we learn about our social status. Bourdieu thinks that social capital
as resources that are connected to the ownership of a durable network of more or less
systematized relationships of reciprocal acquaintances and acknowledgment. He thinks that
cultural capital has three difference focuses which are embodied, objectified and
institutionalized. Embodied is inherited physique that increases over time. Objectified consists
of objects that are owned. They can profited from which includes buying and selling.
Institutionalized consists of being recognized within the institution. The important point about
this is that cultural capital can be compared to other cultural capital. I would like to use my car
as my consumer product. I, the owner purchased this car to help me get to and from work. I also
purchased this car for other activities in my life. By giving out this information, I have told you
my social position. It shows that I didn’t purchase this car because of power. Someone else
could purchase this car to flaunt
or show off. I see a lot of these cars in my area that are fixed up nice. This situation relates
well to aesthetic disposition which is learned at an early age. It is what causes people to think
that their behavior is appropriate based on their social position.
Bourdieu thinks that anything that a person is attached to material wise is considered
cultural capital in objectified forms. I do believe that what you own can cause inequalities. An
example of this would be some of the items located in my room. I have a nice sized TV with
HD and I also have a PS4 and an Xbox 1s in my room. Majority of my friends would assume
