Engels samenvatting Animal Farm
Chapter 1
In chapter 1 you get to know the boar Major. He calls all the animals together and gives a
speech. He thinks that the animals on the farm are treated badly. They get just enough food
to live and have to work hard. They live as a slave. He blames the people for that, all the
produce of their labour are stolen from them.
Chapter 2
In chapter 2, Major is dead. But he inspired the animals to start a Rebellion. They did not
know when the Rebellion would take place but it was their duty to prerpare for it. On a
Saturday evening, Mr Jones got so drunk that he did not came back till midday Sunday. He
only milked the cows but did not fed the animals. He went inside and fell asleep. The animals
were so hungry that one of the cows started the Rebellion which succeed. The seven
commandments were written:
1. Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy
2. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend
3. No animal shall wear clothes
4. No animal shall sleep in a bed
5. No animal shall drink alcohol
6. No animal shall kill any other animal
7. All animals are equal
Chapter 3
In chapter three , Boxer plays a big role, he is a bit the main animal of the farm. Boxer is the
strongest horse and always works hard. He also has a motto "I will work harder". The pigs
are the smartest animals and therefore lead the other animals. The pigs help the other
animals to learn things like reading and writing.
Chapter 4
In chapter four, Jones and his man are trying to get the farm back. They attack the cows.
Boxer kills the man and the others get afraid so they ran away. Then the farm was from the
animals again. They were very happy about it so the sang the song ‘’Beasts of England”.
Chapter 5
In chapter 5 you read that Mollie doesn't like the new life according to the rules, so she
walks away. She would like to eat sugar and wear ribbons, but that is not allowed. Napoleon
and Snowball argue a lot because they often disagree about things. Snowball is chased away
by dogs. Those dogs were raised by Napoleon, so they listen to him. Napoleon is forbidding
all things and making all decisions.
