Over the past years, the financial industry has seen enormous changes as they try to keep

up with changing technology. Banks have tried to keep their reputation by ensuring they can

address changing consumers wants faster than their competitor banks. According to Microsoft

(2017), keeping on top of what customers want is clearly crucial to acquiring a new customer

and retaining existing ones in an environment of high switching and low loyalty. The importance

of understanding customer wants in banking institution has always been crucial. Moreover,

banking has always been about ensuring customer satisfaction.

The current banking system lacks flexibility and availability. Banking transactions need

customers’ physical presence at the premises. This proves to be difficult to some customers

considering their geographical location. Long queues and limited service hours inconveniences

the customers’ as they lack accessibility and control to their accounts. Security issues have also

been a major concern in the financial institution. According to Luana (2018), 47.5% of financial

institutions were breached in the past year with 58.5% of financial institution having experienced

an advanced attack or seen signs of suspicious behavior. With the current changes in technology,

these numbers are expected to triple within the next two years raising a lot of questions to

customers as they do not understand whether the banks can ensure safety of their money.

A web-based banking system can solve this issue. This system incorporates a client-

server model that distributes workloads between servers and clients. A client, requests some

resources, (bank transactions) while the server responds to the requests. Developing this system

will ensure customers have access to their accounts and can access them and transact at any time.

The centralization of control by client-server application will ensure controlled access and data

integrity hence data security. This will also ensure no unauthorized personnel can access the
